Artist's Statement

Welcome to my website and gallery.

Here you will find a sampling of my work from the past three decades. I plan to keep the site and blog updated so you can see current commissions and get a feel for life in a one-man custom shop on the coast of Maine.

I believe in a foundation of tradition and history. Since 1978, I have continued that tradition by interpreting American furniture of the 17th, 18th, and early 19th centuries. My study of the techniques and processes of early bench-made furniture informs my work today.

All work is done on a custom, commissioned basis and every job, large or small, receives my complete attention from inception to delivery. Using the finest hardwoods available, sustainably sourced from suppliers I have dealt with for many years, I am able to offer my clients exceptional choice of color and figure coupled with meticulous craftsmanship honed over 35 years at the bench.

The photos in my gallery may be useful as a starting point in discussing what I can build for you. Whether interpreting an historic piece or working together on a custom design, your input will guide me at the bench. Your vision of what your family will own and use for generations is my inspiration.
